Awakening Light is a one-of-a-kind contemporary abstract painting by New York artist Wei Xue/ April Xue. Created with acrylic and layered mixed-media textures on canvas, the work combines luminous whites and soft grays with warm ochre, orange, and charcoal accents.

Created intuitively without a predetermined image, forms gradually emerge through layers of color, texture, and spontaneous marks. I paint what cannot be planned, but can slowly be discovered.

Wei Xue is a New York–based contemporary abstract artist whose work explores the shifting boundary between memory, perception, and imagination.

She began painting later in life after a career shaped by mechanical engineering and computer science. Rather than planning an image in advance, Xue works intuitively, building layers of color, texture, and spontaneous marks until unexpected forms begin to emerge. Fragments of figures, landscapes, architecture, and dreamlike presences often reveal themselves only after the painting has taken shape.

Her work embraces the coexistence of structure and intuition, stillness and energy, the recognizable and the unknown. Rather than offering a fixed narrative, Xue leaves space for viewers to discover their own associations and meanings within each work.

Her paintings have been presented internationally at art fairs and exhibitions in New York, Miami, Paris, Seoul, Beijing, and other cities, and her work has entered institutional and private collections, including the Villanova University Art Collection.
